Sazerac Company, Inc. created sazerac Rye at Buffalo Trace Distillery. The headquarters is located in New Orleans and was established in the 1800s.

According to the liquor industry, it has been believed that they have initially introduced the cocktail, later the bar, then the full fledged company. Antoine Peychaud, a Creole immigrant, would blend absinthe, brandy, and bitters formed at his pharmacy situated in the French Quarter.

The cocktail earned its name as a result. Thomas H. Handy attained the Sazerac Coffee House in 1869, subsequently then Peychaud's bitters in 1873.
