Released in 1985, Nikka From the Barrel is a blended whisky, and it is big-boned and bursting with character and not averse to a drop of water, either.
The development of this expression started to deliver full flavors and richness of whisky like "from the barrel," that only blenders can sniff and taste. The secret behind its exquisite flavor is the unique combination of complex blending, higher ABV 51.4%, and the "marriage" process.
The complex formula is created by blending more than 100 different malt and grain whiskies. After mixing, the whisky is filled into used barrels and matured for another few months.
The rich in taste whisky is spicy and peppery. It has delicate vanilla notes from the bourbon cask with spicy oak and soft orange fruitiness. Nikka from the Barrel has plenty of personality with grainy sweetness and candied orange peel, accompanied by rich cinnamon and clove.
Nikka from the Barrel shows a delightful balance between spicy pepperiness and rich citrus fruit. It needs a little water to allow the flavors to unfurl.
With its comforting warmth and inviting character, it's no wonder that this whisky has won the top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2010. It has won the Best Japanese Blended Whisky Award eight times under different subcategories.
The iconic square bottle reflects its concept of "a small block of whisky" and embodies the intense and rich flavors inside. Long after its launch, this bottle is still timeless and recognized for its ultimate simplicity.
