Description:

In 2009, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that Glenora could continue to go by Glen Breton (I believe). The SWA reportedly waged a nine-year legal battle because it was concerned that the moniker would induce consumers to think it was a Scotch mistakenly.

Just before the verdict, a newspaper article on the pending judgment was published. I went out and bought four bottles: two of the 10 YO rare and two of the ice wine barrel finish. At the time, I wasn't a whiskey drinker, but I was a smart investor (the first bottles of whisky I think I ever bought).

They would be valuable if the name had to be changed. The individual who ultimately served as my motivation for my whisky experience and I had a conversation about this, and he didn't think the investment would be profitable. He didn't have high hopes for what was in the box (not sure if he had tasted it).

In the end, the bottles' worth didn't increase (oops), and I carried on with my life for an additional 15 to 18 months. Then, in the fall of 2010, I decided to find out what all the fuss was about. When I searched online for the food I was supposed to sample, I came across the first video review in Ralfy's series that had been published. Without using a suitable glass, I grabbed this bottle and drank it while watching the film.

On the nose, it smells delicious. Apple tarts a number of baking spices. Primarily high-pitch notes (as I understand the term). An aroma of honey. Perhaps a touch of sugary and floral, but not too challenging. With time and water, the nose gets richer as the syrup starts to show.

The smoothness and flavor of the beverage are a tad lacking. Sweet and slightly alcoholic. I don't really detect any "flavors" as the sourness progresses. With water, the arrival becomes a little fruitier and sweeter.
