Spirit Type:Â Single Malt Irish WhiskeyCountry:Â IrelandABV:Â 46%Bottle Size:Â 70clDescription:
(box not in best condition)This third Teeling Revival release is a 14-year-old single malt that was made in 2002, aged in former bourbon barrels, and finished in 350-liter Pineau des Charentes casksâa first for Irish whiskey.Pineau des Charentes is a sweet French aperitif that is mostly produced in the Charente and Charente-Maritime areas of the country's southwest. It is the cognac area, and in fact, fresh Charentais that has partially fermented is fortified with cognac eau-de-vie before being allowed to age in oak barrels.First taste: sweet tropical/southern fruits (banana, pineapple, mango, citrus), then hints of gooseberry, ripe apple, and pear. A nice acidity appears (perhaps comparable to fermented fruit) with a touch of black currant and some mint.Although undoubtedly inferior to the 21, 24, or even 25 (I have yet to try the 28), the overall aroma is extremely pleasantly fruity and sweet.Sparkling and tart (at first taste, a "shot" of lemon/tangerine lemonade). Southern pome and stone fruit varieties instead of tropical fruits (peach, citrus, apricot, orange) As it sits in the tongue for a while, it gets creamier and carries hints of cocoa, chocolate, and vanilla. After swallowing, I can still taste a little pink grapefruit and passion fruit. Membranes constrict, spreading a nice grapefruit/bitterness. Some cocoa comes to mind.
