The Viking Legend series of special edition whiskies from Highland Park is coming to an end with Valfather, reportedly the distillery's most affordable whisky to date.
Highland Park Valfather is a single malt with no stated age that was aged in replacement casks and bottled at 47% alcohol by volume.

Valfather, so named after the Norse deity Odin, is claimed to have flavors of "creamy vanilla crème brûlée with toasted cedar wood and warming paprika" and scents of "crisp apple with sweet aromatic pear."

The third and final flavor in the Orkney distillery's Viking Legend series, Valfather, is based on the epic series of events known as Ragnarök that resulted in the demise of numerous Norse figures.

With the publication of Valkyrie in 2017, the series was introduced in association with Danish designer Jim Lyndvold, and it was continued with Valknut earlier this year.
'Valfather and the whiskies in the Viking Legend series uses more of our severely peated malt, rendering the series more like cousins,

rather than a brother or sister, to the core range,' according to Gordon Motion, a master whisky maker at Highland Park.

Comparing this whisky to the remainder of the series and the traditional whiskies, it has the richest and smokiest flavor profile.
